The World

Evenbrook-

Evenbrook is a small city in the country of Dell. It is a walled city located on the northern marches. It is between Ralas Than to the north and the mountains to the west. It is built along the north bank of the Even Flow, a wide river coming out of the mountains which travels downstream to become the White River. Thanks to its location along the river, Evenbrook is the only means of river traffic in the entire country. No ships travel further west than Evenbrook, as the Even Flow is riddled with rapids and shallows as it approaches the mountains. Evenbrook has an extensive wharf. The only means of travel across the Even Flow is by means of boat or ferry. Most goods arriving in Evenbrook are offloaded on the docks and then barged across the river, where it is transported further south by wagon train. Many shady sailors have tried to save a buck or two and avoid the local tariffs by attempting to land along the south bank of the Even Flow, only to have their ships become stuck in the thick, soupy mud along the shore.

Aside from the docks, the rest of Evenbrook has a small town feel to it. Only one road is cobbled, the rest being dirt and mud. Homes crowd around open air markets that dot the western half of the city. Evenbrook has many commons, grassy areas for public use, where the farmers and ranchers from just north of town and to the east come with their cattle, goats, sheep, pigs, and whatever other livestock they may have to bring to market.

Evenbrook is ruled over by Lord Kevin Gelhurt, the Duke of Evenbrook. While Lord Kevin maintains a manor in the city, most of his time is spent either at Strongwall Castle (his estate to the southeast) or in the capital itself. Due to this the running of the city usually falls to the Mayor and City Council. Lord Kevin keeps a small garrison of his house men-at-arms in Evenbrook but the majority of his men are at Strongwall Castle, leaving the city relatively unprotected. This has caused the creation of the Evenbrook Militia, a group of local men under the direction of the City Council who patrol the streets and keep order. The militia and the Gelhurt soldiers are easily differentiated; the militia wear the badge of Evenbrook on their clothing and carry cudgels or staves while the soldiers wear some form of armor with House Gelhurt’s symbol and carry swords, spears, or crossbows.
